The new headteacher at Wells Hall Primary School has praised the support of staff, students and parents alike after starting her new role just before the current national lockdown.

Ros Towns started at the Great Cornard school in January after joining from Wickhambrook Primary Academy, near Haverhill.

Ms Towns’ first day at her new school ended with the country going back into lockdown – which she admitted brought some very early challenges.

Ms Towns said: “It has been all a bit of a whirlwind, but the staff have been so positive and supportive since I started.

“While I would have liked to have met every parent and child properly, I have started making contact and the response has been really positive.

“We have also begun some ‘Meet the Headteacher’ Zoom calls which will also help.”

Ms Towns said she knew all about the reputation of the school after being a governor at Wells Hall, which currently has around 70 children learning in school alongside the vast majority who are home schooling.

She added: “I have always had a great respect for the school and I knew that there was a great team at Wells Hall.

“It has huge potential to be an even better school and my aim is to give every child the education they deserve.

“I want to provide them with every possible opportunity, both in their curriculum and through extra-curricular activities, while fostering a really positive relationship with parents.”

More ‘meet the headteacher’ Zoom calls will take place on Thursday 4th February and Monday 8th February.

“I have always had a great respect for the school and I knew that there was a great team at Wells Hall.”
